Home Textiles

Collection of colorful towels, rugs, and bedding sets displayed in a collage.

Overview

Home textiles in the garment industry encompass functional and decorative fabric products used in residential or commercial interiors, including bedding and bath linens, kitchen textiles, curtains, and upholstery. Quality control in home textiles is critical to ensuring durability, safety, and aesthetic appeal, often involving rigorous testing against international standards like ISO and OEKO-TEX. Additionally, the selection of window treatments fabrics plays a significant role in enhancing the overall interior design.

Types of Home Textiles

Home textiles are categorized by their function:

Bedding: This includes essential bedding and bath linens such as sheets, duvet covers, pillowcases, quilts, and blankets.

Bath & Kitchen: Comprising towels (bath, hand, face), bath mats, shower curtains, dishcloths, and oven mitts.

Window Treatments: Featuring various window treatments fabrics like curtains, drapes, blinds, and valances.

Upholstery & Decorative: This includes furniture fabric, throw pillows, slipcovers, and rugs, all subject to quality control home textiles standards.

Quality Parameters in Home Textiles

Quality control in home textiles, particularly for bedding and bath linens, emphasizes both physical durability and safety: Physical Strength & Durability: Tensile strength, tear resistance, and Martindale abrasion tests (resistance to rubbing). Colorfastness: Resistance to fading or bleeding against washing, light, and perspiration. Dimensional Stability: Shrinkage and warping tests to ensure items retain shape after washing. Functional Testing: Water absorbency for towels, thermal insulation for blankets, and flammability testing for curtains and window treatments fabrics. Chemical & Safety: Testing for restricted substances like azo dyes, formaldehyde, and heavy metals (e.g., OEKO-TEX Standard 100).
