SAMPLING QUALITY PROCEDURE

Overview

The garment sampling process in the garment industry is a structured, multi-stage procedure designed to validate design, fit, and construction before bulk production. It involves creating various samples—Proto, Fit, Size Set, and Pre-Production (PPS)—based on tech packs, followed by rigorous quality control procedures and textile inspection (AQL) to ensure that quality standards are met.

Key objectives include: 


· Design Validation and Approval: To verify that the creative design is feasible for production and to secure official approval from the buyer for the design, fit, and styling. 


· Fit Assessment: To ensure the garment fits correctly on a live model or dummy, adhering to measurements in the technical pack (spec sheet). 


· Quality Standard Setting (PP Sample): To establish a "gold seal" or pre-production (PP) sample that acts as the standard for quality control procedures, materials, and workmanship for the entire bulk production run. 


· Cost and Resource Estimation: To accurately estimate fabric consumption, trim requirements, and manufacturing costs. 


· Identifying Potential Production Problems: To detect and rectify errors early, such as shrinkage, improper seams, or color fastness issues, before mass production, which is crucial in the garment sampling process. 


· Production Consistency (TOP Sample): To ensure that the Top of Production (TOP) samples match the approved sample, maintaining quality during the initial bulk run. 


· Size Standardization: Through size set samples, to verify that grading rules are correctly applied and that the fit is consistent across all sizes. 


· Sales and Marketing Support: To provide salesmen samples (SMS) used for marketing, photo shoots, and securing orders from retailers, thereby enhancing the overall effectiveness of the garment sampling process.

Key Sampling Quality Stages

Proto Sample (Prototype): This is the first version developed to test the design concept using available fabrics and accessories, playing a crucial role in the garment sampling process. 


Fit Sample: Created to check the garment's fit, measurements, and comfort on a fit model, ensuring it aligns with the tech pack and adheres to quality control procedures. 


Size Set Sample: Produced in all ordered sizes to verify, grade, and ensure consistency across the size range, facilitating thorough textile inspection. 


Pre-Production Sample (PPS): The final sample made using actual materials, components, and machinery to be utilized in bulk production, often requiring final buyer approval. 


Salesman Sample (SMS): High-quality samples created for marketing, photoshoots, and buyer orders, essential for showcasing the garment effectively.

Quality Control (QC) Procedures in Sampling

· Tech Pack Verification: Ensuring all sketches, measurements, fabric details, and trimming requirements are followed during the garment sampling process.


· Measurement Inspection: Comparing the sample's physical measurements against the technical specifications (spec sheet) as part of our quality control procedures.


· Fabric and Trim Check: Verifying fabric shade, weight (GSM), quality, and accessories (buttons, zippers) during the textile inspection phase.


· Workmanship Assessment: Inspecting seam strength, stitching quality, and overall finishing to maintain high standards in our quality control procedures.


· Fit Testing: Evaluating the garment on a human model or mannequin for proper drape and comfort as part of the garment sampling process.

Sampling Plan and Approval

· AQL (Acceptable Quality Level): This is utilized during the garment sampling process to determine if a sample batch is accepted or rejected based on allowable defect levels as part of the quality control procedures.  


· Documentation: All comments and corrections are documented in a sample tracking sheet for modifications, ensuring thorough records during the textile inspection.  


· Final Approval: Production only proceeds after the buyer provides written approval of the PPS.
